What is the right type of therapy for me

Schema Therapy

Cognitive Therapy is an approach which aims to change the way an individual thinks - negative interpretations of what is going on in the world, or in their personal lives.  However, for enduring problems, short-term treatments may not be enough.

Schema Therapy was developed in response to these more permanent cognitive structures and aims to help the individual change ways of thinking manifested very early on in life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a popular and practical treatment which focuses on your thoughts, feelings and emotions to address negative patterns of behaviour or cognition.

It is a popular form of treatment, government endorsed due to the short number of sessions usually required to affect change.

Psychoanalysis

Psychoanalysis, founded by Sigmund Freud, is the cornerstone of what we imagine therapy to represent, although our understanding of it is typically poor .

The theory prescribes that problems in our current life are due to traumatic experiences from our childhood, and particularly from problems through developmental stages due to parental conflict.

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT, is a cognitive-behavioral model of psychotherapy.

It is an empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies mixed in different ways with commitment and behavior-change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Solution focused therapists believe that change is constant.

By helping people identify the things that they wish to have changed in their life and also to attend to those things that are currently happening that they wish to continue to have happen, SFBT therapists help their clients to construct a concrete vision of a preferred future for themselves.

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt therapy is an existential/experiential form of psychotherapy that emphasizes personal responsibility, and that focuses upon the whole of what makes a person who he/she is.

The individual's experience in the present moment, the therapist-client relationship, the environmental and social contexts of a person's life, and the self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of their overall situation are all part of this process which is eclectic in nature and flexible in its approach.

Person Centred Therapy

The person-centred approach views the client as their own best authority on their own experience, and it views the client as being fully capable of fulfilling their own potential for growth.

It recognizes, however, that achieving potential requires favourable conditions and that under adverse conditions, individuals may well not grow and develop in the ways that they otherwise could.

Transactional Analysis

Transactional Analysis is a model of people and relationships that is based on the idea that our personality is made up of three internal models - a parent, child and adult.

These models, according to TA, converse with one another in 'transactions' (hence the name) and we play these roles in our relationships and even with ourselves in our internal conversations..
